Visualising

We are concentrating on the strategy of visualising this week.

Visualisation is a strategy that good readers use to help them understand what they read.  As we read we create images in our mind. We all create different images in our mind as our ability to visualise is linked to our prior knowledge and experiences.
We can use all the senses as we visualise; sight, taste, smell, sound and touch.

We are making our visualisations to be like our own cinema or movie. We are the directors of the movie and the stories or poems are like the script for the movie. As we read more of the script, our movies can change, more details can be added depending on what we read and sometimes they can change as we keep reading.

When we create images as we read it helps us understand what we read, we have to think about the meaning in order for us to create our cinema.

This is the hand signal we use when we have created a visualisation.

We made a chart for the classroom to remind us about visualising.
